1882	Establishment of the parent company under the name Société Anonyme des Hauts Fourneaux et Forges de Dudelange (Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg).
1886	Steel production starts up at Dudelange.
1911	The first Grey beam with a web depth of one metre is rolled at Differdange (Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg).
1911	The parent company absorbs the Société des Forges d'Eich, Le Gallais, Metz & Cie (founded in 1838) and S.A. des Mines du Luxembourg et des Forges de Sarrebruck (founded in 1856). The name ARBED, an acronym standing for Aciéries Réunies de Burbach-Eich-Dudelange, appears for the first time.

	At this period, ARBED operates 21 blast furnaces, 3 electric furnaces, 2 steelmaking plants and various rolling mills. In 1912, raw steel production from the ARBED works reaches 824,500 tonnes.
1920	With the establishment of the Columeta sales agency, ARBED takes up the challenge of an international vocation.
1921	Cia Siderurgica Belgo-Mineira is created in Brazil. ARBED takes a share holding in Paul Wurth, Luxembourg.
1922	Acquisition of a holding in Clouterie et Tréfilerie des Flandres (Belgium).
1926	Acquisition of a 90% holding in Eschweiler Bergwerks-Verein (Germany).
1937	Absorption of Métallurgique des Terres Rouges (including the Belval works).
1953	Absorption of Clouterie et Tréfilerie des Flandres (Belgium).
1954	Acquisition of a majority holding in Minière des Terres Rouges.
1959	LD-AC steel production starts up at the ARBED Dudelange works.
1962	ARBED is a partner in the creation of the maritime SIDMAR complex in Belgium and later takes a majority stake in the new company.
1974	Creation of TrefilARBED as part of the extension of wire drawing activities. Start of steelcord production in Bettembourg, Luxembourg. Samarco is created through the mining company Samitri to develop iron ore resources in Brazil.
1976	The name of Columeta is changed to TradeARBED and the international sales network is restructured.
1978	Establishment of TrefilARBED Korea.
1981	SIDMAR starts operation of the first continuous annealing and processing line in Europe.
1982/83	Restructuring of the Luxembourg steel industry.
1990	Joint acquisition by ARBED and the Japanese group Furukawa Electric of Yates, a U.S. company specialising in the production of copper foil.
1991	The steelcord plant of TrefilARBED Arkansas (USA) is inaugurated.
1992	The long products sector is enlarged with the creation of Stahlwerk Thüringen in Eastern Germany.
1993	ProfilARBED, the long products sector’s leading company, is founded as at 1st January 1993. ProfilARBED, a 100% subsidiary of the mother company ARBED S.A., controls the total of the group’s activities in the long products sector.
	ProfilARBED takes control of STUL (Société du Train Universel de Longwy) and Usinor Sacilor takes a controlling stake in STFS (Société du Train à Fil de Schifflange).
	"Laminoir de Dudelange" is created in the frame of the restructuring of the flat products sector around SIDMAR and, together with its shares in Galvalange and in Ewald Giebel Luxembourg, incorporated into the Ghent-based company.
1994	Decision to construct a fourth electric arc furnace and a six-strand continuous caster at the Esch-Belval works. After Esch-Schifflange (1993), Differdange and Stahlwerk Thuringen (1995), the long products sector of the group achives in 1997, its complete switchover to the electric steelmaking process.
	Creation of ARES (Aciérie Rodange - Esch-Schifflange), the leading company for long light products within ProfilARBED.
	SIDMAR becomes a shareholder in Klöckner Stahl, which has been renamed STAHLwerke BREMEN.
	By the end of the year, SIDMAR increases its stake to 51.01%.
	ARBED Americas, a subsidiary of TradeARBED, is founded on 1st January . It manages all commercial activities in the United States.
1995	To improve co-ordination of sales of the ARBED group’s flat products sector, SIDMAR and STAHLwerke BREMEN established SIDSTAHL as of 1st January.
	The ARBED group, through SIDMAR, increases its shareholding in STAHLwerke BREMEN to 67.68%.
1996	In the stainless steel sector, ALZ increases its steel production capacity and aims to enhancing its product range of low-thickness and superior surface quality sheet.
	In Brazil, the implementation of an expansion plan sees an increase of Samitri’s production capacities to over 13 million tonnes. At the same time, Samarco proceeds to doubling the capacity of its pelletisation unit to 12 million tonnes.
1997	In the long products sector, the transition from the integrated route to electric steelmaking is completed with the launch of the electric steelworks and the new continuous caster at the Belval site.
summer 1997	Luxembourg’s only remaining blast furnace in operation, blast furnace "B" at the Belval site, is shut down

27.1.2006	Lancement d'une OPA hostile de Mittal Steel sur ARCELOR
3.2006	Reprise de DOFASCO, Canada par ARCELOR (4,7 Mrd $)
13.4.2006	Inauguration de l'usine commune SEVERGAL (fabrication de tôles galvanisées), Tcherepovets, Russie par SEVERSTAL (75%) et ARCELOR (25%) Investissement: 210 millions $ Début de la production: 12.2005 Production: 200.000 t / an A partir de 12.2006: Production: 400.000 t / an
26.5.2006	Annoncement de la fusion ARCELOR et ServerStal
	L’ensemble Arcelor-Severstal sera le premier groupe sidérurgique au monde avec un chiffre d’affaires pro forma de 46 milliards d’euros, un EBITDA pro forma de 9 milliards d’euros et une production d’acier de 70 millions de tonnes, sur base des résultats 2005 des deux groupes.
25.6.2006	Le conseil d'administration d'ARCELOR donne son accord pour la fusion ARCELOR-MITTAL
